Царствование Марии Терезии - время Просвещения и активных реформ. Она входит в число представителей династии, пользовавшихся наибольшей популярностью. С XIV века до 1918 года территория современной Словении находилась в состав Австро-Венгрии. Территория Словении входила в состав Герцогства Крайна (нем. Herzogtum Krain) и Словенское Приморье (нем. Küstenland) - земли австрийской короны.
